The conjunctions antes de que(before), para que(so that), and sin que(without) require the subjunctive when the subject of the main clause and the subject of the subordinate clause are different. When both subjects are the same, we use the infinitive. In these cases, we omit que. Take a look at the following examples:
Conjunction | Subjunctive | Infinitive |
---|---|---|
para que | Te he llamado para que me hables del proyecto. I called you so that you can tell me about the project. | Te he llamado para hablar del proyecto. I called you to talk about the project. |
antes de que | Antes de que llegues, te llamaré para saber dónde estás. Before you arrive, I will call you to know where you are. | Antes de llegar, llámame. Call me before you arrive. |
