Simple future tense

infinitive future suffix

Used in formal situations to:

  • discuss certain or probable future situations

  • express uncertainty about future facts

  • express politeness

  • make requests or give orders

  • give the probable future results if a condition is met

Used in informal written and spoken language to:

Simple present tense

simple present main verb

to describe events and situations that are scheduled or in the near future (with a time marker!)

haver de + infinitive

to talk about someone’s intention to do something

ter de + infinitive

to describe the need or obligation to do something in the future

to talk about plans or intentions in the future

to refer to something that is about to happen
